SIMAesthesia, 2002, Paul Tulipana
Computer, Screen, Maxis The Sims, The Sims Transmogrifier, Maxis HomeCrafter, Found Data, Game Hacks (File Archive Reader, Strings Scavenger, IFF Pencil, Constant Contraption, FarOut105, blueprint, Far-editor, Animation Alchemist), Speakers. SIMAesthesia locates itself somewhere between the worlds of game modification and the glitch aesthetic. Objects in the Maxis game, The Sims, are overlaid with textures gathered as data found in other experience events. Behaviors and attribute modification are subsequently changed. Events, Animations, Global Objects, and other larger social threads are HEX-edited with found data as well. The result is some rather strange occurrences in the SIM world, as well as a unique visual experience. The Simulation will run as long as the Washington University BFA Show, leading to unknowable results for our characters. It is expected that the Sims will watch TV until they die. The computer logs the family's history, which will be posted at the end of the installation to http://art.paultulipana.net/simaesthesia/ Computer simulations allow for performance with results markedly more dire than those possible by artists.
SimAesthesia will begin operation on Wednesday, May 1, 2002 and will run through the duration of the Washington University 2002 BFA Show. |
